OCTOBER IS REFORMATION MONTH FOR ADULT EDUCATION

On Sunday, October 8, we will start our Reformation theme with the DVD: “LUTHER AND THE REFORMATION” narrated by Rick Steves. SOAR class times will be 9:30 to 10:45 and 11:00 to 12:15. You are invited to view this public television special, filmed on location in Germany and Rome. Rick Steves tells the engaging story of Martin Luther and the theological, political, economic and social changes that were started 500 years ago when he nailed the Ninety-Five Theses to the chapel door in Wittenberg, Germany.

We're All Heretics Now: How the Reformation Changed the Way We Think
About God and Ourselves

On Sunday, Oct. 22nd Steve Patterson, Professor of Religious and Ethical Studies at Willamette University, will continue our Reformation theme by looking at the Reformation as a series of  ideas that helped to usher in what we think of as the "modern world."  In many respects, the Reformation was a product of the Enlightenment, filled with claims about personal responsibility, as well as intellectual and spiritual opportunity.  SOAR times will return to 9:45 and 11:00 on Oct. 22nd
